Chinaman's
Hat Beach
gorgeous yellow sand, shade, calm waters, stunning mountain
backdrop & view of Chinaman's Hat! Many people walk
out to the island at low tide - tide changes have led to
dangerous situations. Wear reef shoes. This beach can get
windy. Walking along the beach you'll come to the "secret
beach" that Kualoa Ranch will take you to for $30.
Have it for free by walking there! It's across the highway
and a little past Chinaman's Hat Beach, an expensive visitor
attraction with movie-set tour to locations where Lost,
Pearl Harbor, Jurassic Park & other were shot. |

Mokulua
Islands
The twin isles are located on the eastern or Windward side
of Oahu, about ½ an hour from Waikiki, close to Lanikai
Beach and Kailua Beach (winners of many "Best Beaches"
awards). You can kayak to the islands (see
video) |
Leeward
Oahu, only 25 miles from from Waikiki, but they may
as well be in another universe. Located on the coastal side
of the Waianae Mountain Range, the Leeward Coast is everything
Waikiki is not: untamed and wide open. Its tallest peak,
Mount Kaala, rises 4,017 feet from the ocean, making it
the highest point on the island. The climate is generally
dry and sunny, and the coastline offers pristine white sand
beaches for swimming, snorkeling, fishing & sunset. |
The
Pali Lookout, located at Nuuanu Pali State Park, overlooks
the 985-foot cliffs of the Koolau Mountain Range. It is
extremely windy. |

Cowboy
Country to the End of the Road The North portion of
Big Island is as far from the postcard version of Hawaii
as it gets. With Waimea’s sloping emerald pastures
& views of snow-capped Maunakea during winter and North
Kohala’s eclectic mix of bohemian art galleries &
decidedly non-resort vibe, it's a day trip that's a vacation
from vacation. Ideal day trip: along the slopes of Kohala
Mountain where the road allows. Get early start in Waimea
with a local-style breakfast at Hawaiian
Style Café. |
